ANANTNAG: In a remarkable stride towards environmental sustainability and ecological restoration, District Anantnag today witnessed an overwhelming response to the Special Plantation Drive. The district-level launch ceremony was ceremoniously inaugurated at Government Higher Secondary School Wanpoh by Advocate Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi), MLA Anantnag West, in the  presence of the Chief Education Officer, Anantnag, and the District Education Planning Officer, Anantnag.

The occasion marked the beginning of a powerful environmental campaign rooted in collective responsibility and community participation. From the early hours of the day, almost all educational institutions across District Anantnag—both Government and Private—actively participated in the drive with extraordinary zeal and commitment.

School campuses transformed into centers of ecological action, where students, teachers, and community members joined hands to plant saplings and pledge their role in safeguarding the environment. To ensure effective implementation and to boost morale on the ground, the Chief Education Officer along with DEPO Anantnag, and the District Cultural Coordinator, undertook extensive field visits to multiple institutions, closely monitoring the activities and motivating stakeholders.

The scale of participation was truly phenomenal, with an estimated 45,900 students, teachers, and community members actively contributing to the success of the drive. Notably, more than 13,500 saplings were planted during the special drive, marking a significant step towards enhancing the green cover of the district and reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation.

Beyond plantation, the drive served as a powerful platform to instill environmental consciousness among the youth, reinforcing the message that every sapling planted today is a step towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable tomorrow.

The Chief Education Office, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, educational institutions, DFO, Social Forestry Anantnag, DFO, Lidder Forest Division, Bijbehara and the community at large for their unwavering support and dedication in transforming this noble initiative into a grand success. The district stands united in its resolve to nurture these saplings and uphold its commitment towards environmental preservation for generations to come.
