PULWAMA:  In a significant step towards environmental conservation, the Government Degree College for Women, Pulwama, today organized a Mega Plantation Drive on its campus. The event witnessed active participation from over 450 students, faculty members, and local environmental volunteers. The drive was inaugurated by the college Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Sami Jan, who highlighted the critical role of afforestation in combating climate change and improving air quality.

Over 500 saplings of native species, including deodar, pine, were planted across the college grounds and surrounding areas. The initiative was supported by the Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department, which provided technical guidance and planting materials. Speaking at the event, the Principal stated, “This plantation drive is not just about planting trees—it’s about nurturing a green legacy for future generations. Our students are ambassadors of ecological responsibility.”

The drive also included a pledge ceremony where participants vowed to protect and care for the planted saplings. A series of awareness lectures on waste management and water conservation followed the plantation activity. The college plans to conduct regular maintenance and geo-tagging of the planted trees to ensure their survival and growth.
