BUDGAM: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, J&K Police have intensified enforcement action across the district Budgam. As part of the ongoing crackdown, a total of 08 FIRs have been registered at Police Stations Chadoora, Charar-i-Shareif, Khansahib and Budgam. Additionally, 44 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals have been seized, while 05 persons have been arrested in connection with these activities.

The seized vehicles include 01 dumper, 23 tippers, 19 tractors and 01 JCB, which were impounded from various areas including Samsun Khansahib, Hardupanzo Waterhail, Soibugh, Beerwah, Charar-i-Shareif and Chadoora. Besides legal action, fines amounting to thousands of rupees have also been imposed on the violators by the Department of Geology and Mining.

Police have urged the general public to cooperate by reporting instances of illegal mining, emphasizing that community participation is essential in curbing this menace effectively. Police reaffirm their commitment towards safeguarding natural resources, ensuring adherence to lawful mining practices and preserving the ecological balance of the district.
