SHOPIAN: Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), Mission Shakti Shopian, organised an awareness programme today at Anganwadi Centre (AWC) Batapora Matribug. The programme aimed to inform and educate local women about various government welfare schemes and initiatives designed for their social and economic upliftment.

Officials provided detailed information on multiple social security schemes, including Old Age Pension, Widow Sponsorship, PCP and the State Marriage Assistance Scheme, helping women understand eligibility criteria and key benefits. Participants were also briefed on employment and financial support initiatives such as Tejaswini, Mission Youth and other loan-based schemes that encourage self-employment and entrepreneurship among young women.

To promote self-reliance, the programme highlighted several skill development opportunities offered through various government departments. Women were encouraged to take advantage of these schemes to enhance their skills and improve their livelihood prospects.

A significant part of the session involved sharing important helpline numbers, including the Women Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098) and the Drug De-addiction Helpline (14446), ensuring that women know where to seek immediate assistance in times of need. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative was also discussed, stressing the importance of girls’ education, protection and empowerment. Participants were sensitised on promoting gender equality and creating a supportive environment for the growth and development of girls within the community.
