JAMMU: To mark the celebration of Constitution Day, a program was held today in the Conference Hall District Court Complex, Janipur under the supervision of Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu R. N. Watal, (Chairman DLSA Jammu) and overall supervision of Maleeka Sharma, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Jammu. The main objective of celebrating constitution Day in India is to honor the adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949 and to uphold the spirit of Constitution with integrity & Compassion.

R. N. Watal, Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge, Jammu commenced the programme by reading the Preamble of the Constitution along with all Judicial Officers of District Court Jammu, Staff, Panel Lawyers and PLVs. The reading of Preamble served as a symbolic gesture of reaffirming the commitment to the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Maleeka Sharma, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Jammu. She emphasized how Constitution day celebration is a special cause for the members of the legal fraternity. “The Constitution Day is not just a moment of celebration, but it is a moment of reflection,” she noted. She further emphasized that the true test of our democracy lies in the values we nurture - independence of institutions, respect for dissent, protection of minorities, and unwavering commitment to justice.

The Ld. Secretary DLSA further emphasized that it is the duty of every individual to ensure that the Constitution remains a living document, dynamic in its interpretation and compassionate in its application.  Another programme was held at MIET College, Kot Bhalwal under the supervision of Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu R. N. Watal, (Chairman DLSA Jammu) and overall supervision of Maleeka Sharma, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Jammu.

Addressing the students, the DLSA Secretary emphasized the importance of hard work and discipline. She encouraged students to embrace constitutional values, adopt technological advancements in the justice system and cultivate constitutional literacy.

The Secretary DLSA Jammu expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries and ended her address with a quote “Constitution is not a mere lawyer’s document, it is a vehicle of life and its spirit is always the spirit of age.” The Panel Lawyer Uma Kapahi highlighted the principles of the Constitution and stressed on the need to create a brighter future for all citizens of India.
