JAMMU : Social Activist Sushil Singh Charak has written to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, and the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, urging the government to ban Halal meat in all government institutions and to implement a uniform food policy across the Union Territory.

In his communication to the administration, Mr. Charak highlighted that in several government departments — including hostels, hospitality, and protocol establishments — only Halal meat is being served, which he said is against the sentiments of citizens belonging to other faiths.

“Jammu and Kashmir represents religious and cultural diversity. Therefore, no single religious practice should be imposed in government-funded institutions. If meat is to be served, both Halal and Jhatka options should be equally available. Otherwise, a purely vegetarian policy should be followed,” Mr. Charak stated.

He further emphasized that India is a secular country, and government institutions must maintain neutrality and equality in all public services. The activist appealed to the administration to frame and implement a clear, non-discriminatory policy ensuring respect for all religious sentiments.

Mr. Charak confirmed that the letter has been emailed to the Lieutenant Governor, with copies sent to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir for necessary consideration and action.
