UDHAMPUR:  In a significant enforcement action against tax evasion, the Enforcement Wing of the State Tax Department, Udhampur imposed and realized a penalty of ₹12.56 lakh during a recent operation conducted on the basis of specific intelligence inputs.

Acting promptly on the received inputs, the enforcement team successfully intercepted a vehicle found transporting goods (Scrap) without valid documents, in violation of the provisions of the GST law. Upon detailed verification and inspection, the violations were established, leading to the imposition and realization of penalty amounting to ₹12.56 lakh.

The operation was carried out by a team headed by Inspector Ravi Chander Sharma, SI Arif Murtaza, Sanjay Kumar and guard Ajay Kumar under the supervision of State Tax Officer Sahida Akhtar.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Abbas Bhat and Assistant Commissioner Indu Jamwal and under the overall supervision of Additional Commissioner Namrita Dogra and Commissioner P.K. Bhat.

The successful enforcement action reflects the department’s firm commitment towards curbing tax evasion, strengthening compliance under the GST regime and safeguarding government revenue through effective field enforcement and coordinated action.

Commissioner P.K. Bhat appreciated the efforts of the Enforcement Wing and commended the team for its alertness, professionalism and dedication. He emphasized the need to continue such enforcement drives with the same level of efficiency while ensuring that the interests of genuine taxpayers are duly protected.

The State Tax Department has appealed to all taxpayers and transporters to strictly comply with GST provisions and ensure proper documentation during transportation of goods in order to avoid penal action under the law.
