• Heavy vehicle Movement suspended as Preventive Measure

BANDIPORA: The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Monday visited Check-Chandergeer, Hajin to take stock of the situation arising from the recent damage to the right embankment of River Jhelum, located at RD-114.730 Km.

 The visit followed reports of fresh subsidence and cracks along the protective embankment, which resulted in partial sinking of the RCC Toe Wall and displacement of crate structures.

During the on-site inspection, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by officers from the Irrigation & Flood Control Department, R&B, Police, and other concerned officers. She interacted with local residents and assured them that all necessary preventive and restorative measures were being taken to ensure public safety and protect the embankment from further deterioration.

Based on the technical inputs from the concerned departments, the District Administration ordered complete suspension of heavy vehicle movement on the affected road stretch until full restoration and stabilization of the embankment. The DC also directed the concerned departments to initiate immediate strengthening work and carry out continuous monitoring of the vulnerable section.

The DC emphasized that public safety remains the top priority and urged residents, transporters, and drivers to cooperate with the administration. She added that movement of light motor vehicles will be allowed only after daily safety assessments, and that the order shall remain in force until the embankment is certified stable by the competent authorities.
