JAMMU: In a significant development aimed at promoting justice, equality, and fair opportunity, members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) community in Jammu and Kashmir have come together to form the “SC-ST Oil & LPG Transporters Association (J&K)”. The Association has been constituted through a unanimously passed resolution by transporters, entrepreneurs, and contractors who have participated in government tenders for Bulk LPG and fuel transportation.
The newly formed body of SC, ST Community members aims to work for transparency and accountability in the transportation trade of major oil companies such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The Association shall represent and safeguard the collective interests of SC/ST transporters and strive for fairness and justice in all government and PSU tender processes.
It will also act as a platform for raising issues, grievances, and representations before competent authorities to ensure equal opportunity in the trade. Through the resolution, S. Harasis Singh, a noted social activist, has been appointed as the Convener of the Association, authorized to represent and correspond on its behalf before government departments, courts, and media. Singh thanked all SC/ST members for reposing their trust in him and pledged to work sincerely for the cause of the community.
Founding signatories include Razia Begum, Bandana Devi, Avinash Mehia, Karamjeet Singh, and Jagdish Raj, among others. The association calls for bringing fairness, transparency in the working of Government owned Oil Companies and to ensure justice for SC, ST community members in tendering process.
