SRINAGAR: President of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Monday expressed deep concern over the government’s continued failure to address pressing public issues, despite receiving a clear mandate from the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the ruling party, instead of working for the welfare of the people, appears to be embroiled in internal conflicts, with its members blaming each other for failures. “The government is busy fighting among themselves — MPs are blaming MLAs and vice versa — while public issues remain unattended. This shows a lack of unity and seriousness within the administration,” Yaseen said.
Highlighting major unfulfilled promises, he said the government had repeatedly assured that the issue of contractual employees would be resolved permanently, but no action has been taken so far. “From the days of Farooq Abdullah’s rule, several committees and recommendations were made, yet nothing concrete was done. There is no need to form more committees — the government must now absorb all contractual employees permanently,” he asserted.
Drawing attention to the plight of farmers and fruit growers, Yaseen said they are reeling under economic distress due to mounting debts. “The government should immediately waive off Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans to help farmers recover and sustain their livelihoods,” he urged.
The PDF President further said that unemployment has touched alarming levels in the Kashmir Valley and called for the creation of new posts and livelihood opportunities for the youth. “The government has completely failed to address the unemployment crisis, leaving thousands of educated youth frustrated,” he added.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the pending reservation issue, noting that despite the passage of a resolution and assurances from the Chief Minister that the report would be made public, it remains hidden. “The *reservation report should be made public immediately* in the interest of transparency and justice,” he demanded.
Concluding his statement, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said the government must end its internal blame game and start focusing on governance, development, and relief for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
