POONCH: The Indian Army under the aegis of BG Brigade in collaboration with Dr. Rubia Bukhari's Cocoon Artistry Initiative and Poonch Campus, University of Jammu, organized a one-day workshop on Cocoon Artistry at Dharati Higher Secondary School, Mendhar, Poonch. The event aimed to provide skill-based training to students and residents of the adjoining areas, highlighting the significance of Cocoon Artistry in promoting self-reliance and economic growth.
Dr. Rubia Bukhari, the founder of Dr. Rubia Bukhari's Cocoon Artistry Initiative, graced the occasion. The event witnessed the presence of senior Army officials, members of civil society, students and faculty of the school. Besides this more than 100 locals attended the programme. Speaking at the workshop, Army officials praised Dr. Rubia Bukhari for her relentless efforts and dedication to fostering creativity and innovation among youth and women through Sericulture and Cocoon Artistry. “Her initiatives have successfully inspired many to explore the potential of sericulture and cocoon artistry, providing them with sustainable livelihood opportunities,” an official remarked.
Dr. Rubia Bukhari delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation, emphasizing the transformative potential of the sericulture industry and her vision behind the Cocoon Artistry Initiative. She highlighted how skill development in this field can empower individuals, particularly in border regions like Poonch, to become self-reliant and contribute to their communities.
As part of the program, a Mulberry Tree Plantation Drive was organized. Over 1,500 mulberry saplings were planted in the border villages of Sohala and Panjani, located just one kilometer from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and ahead of the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS). Despite the challenges posed by this sensitive geographical location, the initiative symbolizes growth, environmental conservation and the promotion of sustainable practices in the region.
This effort seeks to inspire hope and provide opportunities for the residents of these border areas. By advancing sericulture and cocoon artistry, the initiative aims to create sustainable employment opportunities, empower local communities and foster economic self-reliance among the population. The Indian Army's efforts, combined with Dr. Rubia Bukhari's visionary leadership, continue to inspire the people of this region, showcasing the transformative power of skill-based initiatives in fostering resilience and community development.
