SRINAGAR: On the third consecutive day today, ‘Swachhtantra’ the pre-Republic Day Swachhata campaign launched by the Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD) in all urban areas of J&K witnessed enthusiastic public participation. The Urban Local Bodies across the Kashmir Division have undertaken different cleanliness programmes involving citizens in the pursuit of creating a clean environment for the 76th Republic Day celebrations.
Special sanitation drives were held in health institutions of the urban areas with the theme ‘Sanitation for Safe Healing’. Extensive cleaning of toilets, hospital premises, parks, parking areas was done during this special Swachhata drive. Besides, different cleanliness drives were undertaken by the Urban Local Bodies for cleaner water bodies, market places, roads, lanes, drains and green spaces under ‘Swachhata Main Ekta’ campaign.
More than 4500 people participated in about 48 cleanliness initiatives of the ULBs today. In order to show commitment towards Swachhata and devote their time in such initiatives, 'Swachhta Pledge’ was taken by more than 1400 people in 40 ULBs of the Kashmir Division. Akram Ullah Tak, Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir also participated in Swachhta Pledge and other activities organised by Municipal Council Anantnag.
He emphasised the need for encouraging behavioural change of Urban Populace for their participation/contribution in making the J&K free from littering, safe & hygienic environment in their respective areas. Awareness through Nukad Nataks were also organised in different ULBs to disseminate the message regarding sanitation, Source Segregation, Anti-littering among the masses in urban Areas. Swachhata ambassadors and volunteers participated in cleanliness activities highlighting the growing impact and reach of the Swachhata Campaign.
