BARAMULLA: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Baramulla Police carried out multiple enforcement actions at Delina Ghat and other areas of the district in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department.
During a raid at Delina Ghat, one motor used for the illegal extraction of sand was seized, and legal action under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act) has been initiated. During naka checking at Delina, one tipper bearing registration No. JK05M-9076 was intercepted and found carrying sand without a valid royalty permit.
Necessary action under the MMDR Act was taken by the Geology & Mining Department, following which the vehicle was released as per rules. In another action, Police Station Baramulla intercepted a tipper bearing Registration number JK12-3169 carrying illegally extracted minerals during naka checking. The vehicle was found transporting the minerals without valid authorization/royalty documents. Accordingly, the vehicle was seized in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department under the provisions of the MMDR Act, and further legal action has been initiated.
Police remain committed to curbing illegal mining and protecting natural resources. The public is urged to report any instances of illegal mining or unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals to the nearest police station.
