BARAMULLA: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Police in Baramulla, in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department, took action against the illegal extraction and dumping of minerals at Babagund Pattan.
Acting on specific information, Police Station received information regarding the illegal dumping of minerals extracted from Babagund Nallah by two locals, namely Jahangir Ahmad Khan S/o Mohd Maqbool Khan and Shabir Ahmad Khan S/o Farooq Ahmad Khan, both residents of Babagund.
Accordingly, a police party, along with officials of the Geology & Mining Department, rushed to the spot. During the inspection, illegally dumped boulders and gravel were seized. The Geology & Mining Department imposed a fine of ₹73,693/- (Rupees Seventy-Three Thousand Six Hundred Ninety-Three only) under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act) against the violators.
J&K Police remain committed to protecting natural resources and taking stringent action against those involved in illegal mining. The public is urged to report any such unlawful activities to the nearest police station to help safeguard the environment and ensure strict enforcement of the law.
