JAMMU: The 63rd Annual Raising Day of Homeguards and Civil Defence was celebrated today at SDRF 2nd Battalion Headquarters, Gulshan Ground. DGP/Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF Jammu & Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir, who was the Chief Guest, congratulated the personnel and highlighted the duties and responsibilities of Homeguards and Civil Defence volunteers as first responders during any disaster.
He appreciated the role and assistance extended by the officers and volunteers of Civil Defence and Homeguards during the past year. The Chief Guest also stressed the importance of preparedness for future challenges and readiness of stakeholders to respond to any eventuality.
During the event, greeting messages from the President of India, Union Home Minister, Lieutenant Governor, UT J&K, the Chief Minister, UT J&K, and senior dignitaries of the Government of India and the Union Territory Administration were read out. DIG HG/CD & SDRF Jammu and Director Homeguards Jammu Mohammad Arshad also addressed the gathering.
On this occasion, Civil Defence and Homeguard volunteers of Jammu Province, who demonstrated dedication and commitment during the past year, were honoured with mementos and commendation certificates by the chief guest. Cash rewards amounting to Rs. 10,000 each were given to 7 civilians and 1 Civil Defence Warden, Rs. 5,000 each to 4 Civil Defence Wardens and 1 VHG, Rs. 3,000 each to 7 SPOs. The awards were presented in recognition of their excellent performance during Operation Sindoor and efficient response during recent cloudburst situations.
