KATRA: Saplings of “Hariman-99 Summer Zone” apples were planted in the SMVDU campus in the presence of Prof. Pragati Kumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor; Registrar, Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma and other staff and faculty members.
The special guest on this occasion was Dr. KC Sharma, a surgeon specialist from Udhampur, who provided the saplings of this special species of apples. Dr KC Sharma informed that this apple tree grows at atmospheric temperature upto 48 degree Celsius, has pink flowers and fruit ripens in the month of June.
The tree starts giving fruit 13-15 months after plantation. Colour, fragrance, juice and contents of the apple are like those found at high altitudes.
