JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri on Tuesday said that the launch of interventional Cath Lab services at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur, is a living example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, which is transforming healthcare not only for the people of Jammu and Kashmir but also for neighbouring states.
Raman Suri said it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who took the historic decision to establish AIIMS for Jammu, and today the institute is steadily proving to be a boon for thousands of patients. “The Cath Lab facility at AIIMS Vijaypur will provide major relief to heart patients, particularly those who cannot afford expensive tests and procedures in private hospitals. This is exactly what PM Modi’s vision of affordable and accessible healthcare for all stands for,” he said.
The BJP leader pointed out that until now, interventional cardiac lab services were limited to a few super-specialty government hospitals in the Jammu division, forcing patients to depend heavily on private hospitals. In cases of technical failure at government facilities, patients were often left helpless. “With the Cath Lab becoming operational at AIIMS Vijaypur, such situations will now be effectively addressed, ensuring uninterrupted and timely cardiac care,” Suri said.
Highlighting the geographical and infrastructural challenges of Jammu and Kashmir, Raman Suri said that limited advanced healthcare facilities in the Jammu region have long been a cause of concern. He noted that while the government has established new medical colleges in Udhampur, Rajouri, Kathua, Doda, Baramulla, Handwara and Anantnag over the past few years, many of these institutions are still developing comprehensive super-specialty services.
“After the establishment of AIIMS, there was renewed hope that patients from Jammu and Kashmir would no longer be forced to travel to Delhi, Chandigarh or other states for advanced treatment. In just one and a half years of its functioning, AIIMS Vijaypur has introduced several critical facilities, and the Cath Lab is a major addition to this growing healthcare ecosystem,” he said.
Raman Suri further said that cardiac diseases are increasing due to changing lifestyles, stress and lack of early diagnosis, making the availability of modern interventional facilities extremely important. “The Cath Lab at AIIMS Vijaypur will ensure early diagnosis, timely intervention and affordable treatment, thereby saving countless lives,” he added.
He underlined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision behind establishing AIIMS in Jammu was not limited to serving one region alone but to benefit people from adjoining states as well, by creating a centre of excellence in healthcare. “Today, that vision is clearly visible on the ground. AIIMS Vijaypur is emerging as a trusted institution for quality medical care,” Suri said.
The BJP leader urged the authorities to continue strengthening infrastructure, manpower and specialised services at AIIMS Vijaypur and other government medical institutions across Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed confidence that with sustained support from the central government, Jammu and Kashmir will soon become a hub of advanced, affordable and patient-centric healthcare, fulfilling the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of the region.
