RAMBAN: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Ramban today organized a comprehensive Road Safety Awareness, Orientation, and Counselling Programme for transport operators, drivers and conductors at Tehsil Headquarters Ukhral, one of the remotest and hilly regions of the Ramban district. The programme was attended by Chowki Officer Ukhral, MVI Vishawjeet Singh Raju, AMVI Darpen Sharma and prominent citizens.

The ARTO Ramban organised this programme keeping in view the road safety measures required during the upcoming winter season to ensure safe travel in the region. The initiative aimed to educate stakeholders about safe driving practices, regulatory norms and measures to reduce road accidents in mountainous terrain.

Addressing the gathering, ARTO Ramban, Kuldeep Singh highlighted the importance of strict adherence to traffic rules, especially in hilly and accident-prone areas. He emphasized that safe driving is not only a professional responsibility but also a moral duty that directly impacts public safety. He advised drivers to avoid overspeeding, follow lane discipline, ensure vehicle fitness, and refrain from using mobile phones while driving. He also stressed the need for regular maintenance of brakes, tyres and lights—critical components for safe travel on steep and narrow stretches. Drivers were advised to carry salt and refrain from driving during freezing conditions.

The ARTO urged transport operators to ensure that their drivers and conductors are well-trained, disciplined and aware of all safety protocols. He also highlighted the importance of wearing seat belts, avoiding overloading and keeping first-aid kits and fire extinguishers in all vehicles.

During the programme, participants were counselled on passenger safety, responsible driving behaviour, emergency handling and the legal consequences of traffic violations. The MVD team also interacted with attendees and addressed their queries related to transport regulations and road safety. The department reaffirmed its commitment to continuing such awareness programmes across Ramban to promote a safer transport environment.
