JAMMU: The Extension and Publicity Wing of Animal Husbandry Department Jammu today organized an informative Seminar, to mark the National Milk Day, celebrated annually in honor of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution in India, The programme highlighted the importance of dairy development, farmer empowerment and the role of dairy cooperatives in strengthening the rural economy.

The seminar was graced by the Chief Guest, Mission Director Dairy Development, J&K, Narinder Singh Bali whose presence added significant value to the proceedings. In his address, the Mission Director emphasized the need to enhance milk value addition and processing, promoting farmer-centric groups like cooperatives and FPOs across Jammu & Kashmir with main focus on production of a quality milk. He appreciated the efforts of the department in extending technical support and modern dairy practices to farmers.

Senior officers of the department including Deputy Directors, Livestock Development Officers, Veterinary and Paravets, staff, progressive dairy farmers, representatives of dairy cooperatives and other stakeholders from across the Jammu division participated in the event. The programme commenced with the Preamble reading ceremony followed by introduction on the relevance of National Milk Day and its role in recognizing the contribution of millions of dairy farmers especially women farmers across the country.

The technical session included detailed presentations on critical topics like disease management in dairy animals, overview of dairy sector in J&K, clean milk production, role of dairy cooperatives in rural development and milk processing and value addition, presented by hosts of experts from SKUAST-Jammu and officers from the Animal Husbandry Department Jammu.

Progressive dairy farmers from all the districts of Jammu division were also felicitated on the occasion with Certificates and Mementos for their exemplary contribution to dairy development in Jammu and Kashmir. Their success stories served as motivation for other farmers attending the programme.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to provide timely veterinary services, supporting dairy cooperatives and promoting dairy enterprises across Jammu region. The Seminar concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, officers, organizers and dairy farmers for their active participation and support.
