SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has strongly condemned the sexual assault on a minor student at a private school in Srinagar, calling for immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators. The association demands justice for the victim and accountability from the school administration.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, National President of Association Ummar Jamal expressed deep concern and anger over the incident, stating, âSuch heinous crimes against children are utterly unacceptable and must not be tolerated under any circumstances. We demand that the culprits be booked under the strictest sections of the law and punished to the fullest extent to serve as a strong deterrent to others.â
The association called for a comprehensive investigation into the school's role in the incident, emphasizing the importance of accountability for any potential lapses in ensuring student safety. âThe administration of the school must be held responsible if any negligence is found in providing a secure environment for the students. It is crucial that institutions prioritize the safety and well-being of their students.
The association further urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their children, highlighting the need for increased awareness and monitoring to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future. âThis incident is a stark reminder that we must all be vigilant in protecting our children and ensuring their safety in all environments, particularly within educational institutions,â Jamal emphasized.
The association reiterated that the incident has once again brought the issue of child safety to the forefront, prompting calls for stricter measures and better enforcement of existing laws to protect vulnerable students.
Emphasizing the broader implications, National General Secretary of Association Aadil Bhat urged all schools in the region to implement and enforce stringent measures to prevent sexual harassment and ensure the safety of all students. "Educational institutions must prioritize the welfare of their students by adopting comprehensive safety protocols and fostering an environment where students feel secure," Bhat added. "We want strict action under POCSO, he said.
He urged Director of School Education to establish child protection committees in private and public schools as per the POCSO Act, which will help prevent child sexual abuse in schools. "As per the POCSO Act, each school must have a committee and policy on child protection so that child sexual abuse cases are identified, reported, and addressed," Bhat added.
