JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Executive Member Raman Suri today strongly criticized former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah for attempting to shift blame onto the BJP-led central government regarding the issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He said Omar Abdullah should first focus on governance, accountability, and fulfilling promises made to the people rather than engaging in political blame games and issuing misleading statements for political gains.
Reacting sharply to Omar Abdullah’s recent comments made during a rally in Kulgam, where he accused the BJP of “deliberately depriving the people of Jammu and Kashmir of their constitutional and democratic rights,” Raman Suri said such remarks expose the NC leader’s frustration and failure to perform on the ground. “A good government is known for transparency and delivery. Instead of hiding behind excuses and pointing fingers at the Union Government, Omar Abdullah must come clean before the people and explain what his government has done so far in terms of development, employment generation, and governance,” Suri asserted.
He added that Omar Abdullah’s government has crossed a year in office, but not even a single substantial reform or welfare measure has reached the common man. “Instead of presenting quarterly progress reports or even an annual review as responsible governments do, the NC regime has resorted to rhetoric and blame games. Such political posturing cannot hide administrative inefficiency,” Suri remarked.
The BJP leader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have already assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that statehood will be restored at an appropriate time once the democratic and developmental processes are fully stabilized. “The Centre’s focus is on strengthening democracy, ensuring peace, and accelerating development in J&K. The Union Government has carried out historic infrastructure, tourism, and youth-oriented initiatives, which Omar Abdullah should acknowledge instead of creating false narratives,” he said.
Suri further stated that Omar Abdullah’s repeated attempts to mislead people on the statehood issue reflect his political insecurity. “He knows that the NC government has failed to meet public expectations. Instead of fulfilling promises and bringing transparency, Omar Abdullah is indulging in baseless allegations against the BJP, trying to shift attention from his own failures,” Suri added.
He also questioned the NC leader’s silence on vital issues like corruption, unemployment, deteriorating healthcare, and urban mismanagement. “If Omar Abdullah claims to be working for the people, he should come forward with data, not drama. His party owes accountability to those who reposed faith in them. Blaming the Centre cannot wash away the failures of the state government,” Suri said.
